My original interest in photography can be credited to my Father. He was a Real Estate Appraiser and I began apprenticing with him as a young man. As we appraised and photographed numerous structures, I developed an appreciation for the architectural design of these buildings. In some cases, we were in very rural areas where the countryside was a showcase for the remnants of old fireplaces or outbuildings.
I began studying the designs of buildings through visual opportunities and books. It must have been in my blood, my Grandfather was an Architectural Engineer. I found the intricate details of what was once a general store or a white country church, fascinating, and always wondered out loud, “if these walls could talk”. My next best was to arm myself with my camera and through its lens, try to capture the essence of the object. I see them first-hand and want that to be portrayed in my black and white photos. I want to bring the subject matter back to life, try to give it meaning, so I can share the wonders of yesteryear with others. The roads I’ve traveled in the south, have provided an enormous stage and before these treasures are lost to us forever, I want to preserve them through my photography.
